The Department of Taxation offers a four-year degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Science Degree in Taxation. The Degree is acquired through coursework and project/original essay.

Philosophy & Objectives

The Departmental Academic programme is based on the fundamental assumption that the student is entitled to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge that will make him face the challenges of life as this will help him cope with the problems of his environment.

The curriculum is designed to give students broader knowledge of business by also concentrating in his special field of studies, Taxation. Therefore, emphasis is placed upon professional education of the entire individual and providing students with the background necessary for his effective performance in his career.

To obtain the degree, students must complete a total of 136 credit hours of course work consisting of courses "the major area, Accounting, and courses from the ancillary areas embracing other department such as Management, Marketing, Finance, Law, Psychology and the General Studies Unit of the University.

Education in Taxation as offered by the department has the following objectives:

  • To prepare candidates who will graduate in Taxation and be in a position to carry out the duties and responsibilities of Tax Auditing in Government and Industrial Establishments Business undertakings, Statutory Corporations and parastatals, proceed to qualify as professional/ Chartered Tax Auditors and to become Management consultants.
  • The course aims at helping students acquire leadership skills, human relations, analytical, evaluative, quantitative and communicative skills needed for management of organizations and proper stewardship.
  • It also exposes students to the integrative, interdisciplinary and dynamic nature of business and administrative processes.

The University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Entry Mode

Candidates must possess credits in five O/L subjects at WASC, GCE or NECO including English and Mathematics at not more than two sittings as well as obtain a satisfactory score at UME as determined by the Department.
